On Mission
Mission Statement
Missions is at the heart of the ministry of Lake City First Baptist Church. It is our desire to take the gospel to our community, county, state, country, and to the ends of the earth. At LCFBC we are devoted to the Great Commission:
"Go therefore and make disciples of all the
nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father and the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
Teaching them to observe all things that I
have commanded you: and lo, I am with
you always, even to the end of the age"
-Jesus Christ-
This is the Great Commission of Jesus Christ. But it could have been born of a single verse, a single word in a single verse: Whoever. Jesus sends whoever will go, to whoever will hear. And than what to tell? To tell the same verse, statement, promise. The promise that is at the heart of the Bible, at the backbone of the Christian Faith. The promise of God to whoever:
"For God so loved the world that He gave His
only begotten Son, that whoever believes in
Him should not perish but have everlasting
life." John 3:16
A verse so small that it can be written on a napkin, so simple it can be memorized in a moment. But so strong that it tells of God's love for His creation, and His promise of salvation from the sin of mankind and the world.
This statement is greater then all the world's divisions: race, creeds, sex, and even religions. "God loved the WORLD...that WHOEVER believes", God wants "whoever" God wants everyone.
The promise starts with God and ends with Life. There is no hidden or small print even though many people try to find some. "whoever works for Him" that sounds good to us, or maybe "whoever satisfies Him" another one that we could understand better. But God asks less and more "whoever believes in Him" trusts Him, relies on Him. An easy thing to do right. After all we believe in our chairs to hold us up, we believe in our cars to get us where we need to go. But believe in God, in Jesus, this is, for some, a rather hard thing to do.
But that is all that is asked of us simply believe and through belief live. Live in the belief, the faith, that God's love is great, overcoming, everlasting, and without compare. Live in a way that would be pleasing to the One who loves with this kind of love. And through this belief we will be given everlasting life.
This verse, this statement, this promise is by simple definition for whoever. Through Jesus' life we were shown, and through the Bible we are told to tell. Tell WHOEVER. So we now stand in the knowledge Jesus left in our keep.....GO AND TELL.....
